Yes! It is very easy to do. I own a Garmin Nuvi. (Nuvi is the model) All you have to do is make sure it is charged and you can take it anywhere you would like. I love mine!!! It also comes with a mount so you can stick it on your windshield.

Garmin and TomTom is a good and top portable gps systems.

I am suggestion :

1. Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015EWMX8?ie=UTF8&tag=garmin.gps.navigator.cheap-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0015EWMX8

2.TomTom ONE 125 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001H9NR2Q?ie=UTF8&tag=garmin.gps.navigator.cheap-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001H9NR2Q

If you buy a Garmin, choose a model that ends with a "5", like 205, 255, 265, 755, or 765, is a newer model (old models is end with "0" like 200, 350, 360, 760, etc).

The new model upgrades from the older model series and have more feature such as widescreen, mp3, etc.

With technology always adapting, most people probably would not keep each unit more than a couple years. The problem is that the maps need updating every year or two depending on your location and where you travel. I have a Garmin that is 2 years old but when I bought it, the maps on it where already a year old. The problem is that an update is $70-80 and a similar model new is a little over a $100. I recommend a cheaper unit, the bluetooth in most don't work well and will annoy the person on the other line. Garmin works good for me, I am happy and travel all over the US. I just need an update really bad. Also portable is the best, the risk of getting one stolen is minimal now that they are so common and you can transfer it to other cars that you may use for travel or as you buy and sell your next vehicle.

GPS direct from the car manufacturer usually cost up to $2,000 but might include a couple of luxuries like back-up cameras, but updates can be up to $600 for them.

I have a Garmin GPS from 2002 or so. I have "kept" it but actually don't use it much currently, as it is non-rechargable, and needs batteries replaced every 10 hours or so, and if I'm driving a long trip the batteries may be dying off just as I get to the destination and need directions off the interstate.

And by example, I think that whatever the state of the art today might seem backward and barely useful 5 years or more from now, and think of such items as having a useful life of around 5 years, something else you can buy in your new car and it fails to help remind you to buy a new car later (did I just say "planned obsolescence?")

The factory Honda GPS provided by Alpine have limited features such as in rual area, it will not allow you to route due to the roads have not been physically driven by NavTeq the map providers.

Your passenger will not be able to program the navi unit while you are driving which is a safety feature the manufacturers demand.

I would say you can go wrong with buying an after market portable for the price of the map update disc since you can transfer it from car to car and the unit will be more up todate than even the new map update disc Honda try to sell you.

There are tons of PND available and they are all pretty good, but to play it safe, stick with the top 3 GPS manufacturers and you should be o.k.

I would recommend for you to consider the Garmin Nuvi 260W 4.3" display, NA coverage with Text to speech ability. No Bluetooth but this unit is a deal at $239,99
http://www.autonav2000.com/mall/anProdDe...

Than consider the TomTom ONE XL 330-S which also offers a 4.3" display with Text to speech feature only for $299.99 a great deal.
http://www.autonav2000.com/mall/anProdDe...

Last but probably one of the most full feature GPS you can buy at the $299 price will be the Magellan Maestro 4250, it comes with voice command, Text to Speech, Bluetooth hands free, Full North America map, AAA tour book and a 4.3" display. This is the best deal going currently if you wish to have it all for under $300
http://www.autonav2000.com/mall/anProdDe...

Not sure which one will meet your requirements? rent one from GPS4Rent at http://www.gps4rent.com/ and test drive as many of these as you wish.

Hope this helps

I never had a problem buying stuff online, don't be scared of it, any problems and your credit card will refund your money by just telling them what happened. BestBuy has some good GPS, they also have some coupons for them at http://www.juicycoupons.com/Electronics/BestBuy-com-Coupons/index.html

I generally find that Amazon can't be beat.
Even if the price is lower on other sites, you still have to figure in shipping charges and tax.. Amazon won't charge you for tax or shipping.

Amazon is also a great resource to read user reviews of the product you are buying.

I've been buying items on Amazon for a few years and always felt safe.

Check out the Garmin units on Amazon
Garmin i3, or i5
Garmin C320, or higher
Garmin Nuvi

You can also find the major GPS competitors: Magellan, Lowrance, and TomTom.

Sony also has a unit.

I prefer Garmin, but you can check them all out.
